Green Malawi Initiative (GMI) is Non-Governmental and non-profit organization founded in June 2005 in Malawi. The background against which the organization was established being the alarming rate of the degradation of the environment and the unsustainable natural resource utilization that is causing significant natural resources loss and depletion in the country. Notably issues of urban waste management and other urban pollution problems like dust and plastic pollution problems just to mention a few in our cities, towns and trading centers posing extreme health hazards to residents. In natural resources management consideration among others include soil fertility loss, soil erosion, increased deforestation, biodiversity loss and water resources depletion and pollution.

To promote sustainable utilization of natural resources and environmental protection through community capacity building, environmental education and awareness and relevant environment and natural resources research and management activities in Malawi

Objectives

1. To facilitate the design and implementation of community based natural resources management projects and provide technical and/or material support to already established community institutions.
2. To promote environmental education and awareness for the general public for enhanced environmental protection and natural resources management.
3. To design and carry out environmental and natural resource related research activities aimed at promoting sustainable natural resources utilization and environmental protection in Malawi.
4. To ensure transparency and accountability in environmental management related issues in the country through legal and policy advocacy initiatives among the relevant stakeholders.
